On December 31, 2016, an arrest was made on Mr. Siwon Philavong, a Laotian, on the charges of unauthorized transportation as the remains of 10 Red-bellied Squirrels and 10 Gray-bellied Squirrels were found in his possession. The arrest was made in cooperation by Mukdahan Wildlife Checkpoint, Rangers (Thahan Phran), Immigration Bureau, Customs, and Border Patrol Police (Thai-Lao). The case was sent to Investigation Officers at Mukdahan Police Station for further legal actions.

Between January 7 – 15, 2017, Mukdahan Wildlife Checkpoint hosted an exhibition on the operation of CITES and the campaign against the illegal wildlife trade at Mukdahan Annual Red Cross event in front of Mukdahan’s City Hall, Mukdahan province (border between Thai-Lao). The chief of Mukdahan Wildlife Checkpoint also participated in a Mukdahan Annual Red Cross event with Mukdahan Province’s civil juries in a reflective discussion as a conservationist. The topics in this discussion ranged from officials talking about their viewpoint as a member of the enforcers to opinion pieces from Mukdahan citizens on the special economic zone. The discussion then turned to remind the citizens of Mukdahan in the face of substantial progress is for its people to remember the three virtues; Morals, Nature, and Culture.

On December 17 - 18, 2016, Mukdahan Wildlife Checkpoint, Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, coordinated with inspection officials of Royal Forest Department, local security officials, Mekhong Riverine Unit, and Border Patrol Police in seizing contraband wild orchids around the Indochinese market in Mukdahan Province (Thailand), opposite to Savannakhet Province (Lao PDR). After which, Mukdahan Wildlife Checkpoint sent out officers to engage in Public Relation works around the Indochinese market, handling out brochures dissuading against the buying or selling of wild orchids to ensure the wild flora stays off the market.

On 28 January 2016, the Mukdahan Wildlife Checkpoint hosted a public event in collaboration with the Royal Thai Navy to exhibit information about the conservation of wildlife and the CITES treaty and the ivory trade market at the Dontanwittaya School’s Auditorium, Don Tan prefecture, Mukdahan province.
