On January 25, 2017, Chong Chom Wildlife Checkpoint (Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation: DNP) , Surin Fish Inspection Office (Department of Fisheries), Huai Thap Than-Huai Samran Wildlife Sanctuary (DNP), Surin Forest Preservation Unit 4 (Royal Forest Department: RFD), Surin Animal Quarantine Center (Department of Livestock Development), Kap Choeng District Office (Surin Province), Surin Special Operation Task Force (Royal Thai Police), Surin Police Station (Surin Province), Suranaree K-9  (Royal Thai Army), totaling 8 units (32 officers), committed in a joint inspection of Chong Chom Market, a Thai-Cambodia Border Trade Market at Dan Sub-district, Kap Choeng District, Surin Province. 

The operation inspected 13 souvenir shops, 4 woodworks shops, and an unspecified number of stores selling standard wares. The operation was acted out in accordance with the DNP’s document (Number 0904.301/6861 dated April 5, 2016: Wildlife Crime Prevention and Enforcement) as well as other legislatures.

Between January 22 – 24, 2017, Chong Chom Wildlife Checkpoint (Thai-Cambodia border) joined hands to work with Ivory Inspection Officers (Protected Area Administration Office 9, Ubon Ratchathani) in inspecting the activities of 20 ivory shops and dealers in the vicinity of Tha Tum District and Muang District, Surin Province for official ivory dealing licenses. The license holders were found to be operating legally under the government regulations, no suspicious activities were found.

On December 27, 2016, Chong Chom Wildlife Checkpoint cooperated with enforcement officials at Chong Chom Border Checkpoint (Thai-Cambodia border) in Surin Province. Twenty-two members from Huaituptun – Huaisamrun Wildlife Sanctuary (Department of National Parks , Wildlife and Plant Conservation), Surin Fish Quarantine Unit (Department of Fisheries), Forest Preservation and Protection Division SR. 4 (Royal Forest Department), Local Provincial Administration , Volunteer Defense Corps 6 from Kap Choeng District (Surin Province), and police officers from Surin Provincial Police Special Operations Units, got together for the regular inspection at “Chong Chom Market” which is located near the border. The routine inspection encompassed the entirety of the market, inspecting two woodwork shops and eleven souvenir stores. The enforcement operation also included the strict inspection of personnel and vehicles travelling across the borders for illegal wildlife. No signs of irregularities or wrongdoings were found.

On 9th May 2016, Chongchom Wildlife Checkpoint reported their status update.

1. Enforced accordingly to their post in collaboration with the National Securities and other related enforcement departments at  the shared border checkpoint at Chongchom, Kap Choeng district, Surin province. 

2. The installation of warning signs against the importation, exportation, or carry over merchandises made from plants and animals in three different languages around the perimeter of Chongchom, Sa-ngam, and Sai Ta Ku border checkpoints with one sign per locations. Special credits go to Thailand Wildlife Enforcement     (Thailand-WEN) for funding supports.
