On January 8, 2017, Ladkrabang Wildlife Checkpoint and Administration Section from Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation continued their combined efforts in hosting an exhibition and campaign in Chatuchak Market, Bangkok, Thailand to ask for cooperation from tourists in refraining from buying ivory and illegal wildlife trade in Thailand.

On January 8, 2017, Nong Khai Wildlife Checkpoint (Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation) collaborated with Nong Khai Plant Quarantine Station, Prevention and Suppression Supporting Office 2nd (Northeastern Thailand Region), Mekhong Riverine Unit at Pangchan Station, soldiers from Nong Khai Province, and other local authorities, in enforcing against unlawful activities at Pangchan temporarily permitted area, Rattanawapi district, Nong Khai province. This periodic action of enforcement was undertaken to curb illegal wildlife trade in the area along the border between Thai-Lao.

Between January 7 – 15, 2017, Mukdahan Wildlife Checkpoint hosted an exhibition on the operation of CITES and the campaign against the illegal wildlife trade at Mukdahan Annual Red Cross event in front of Mukdahan’s City Hall, Mukdahan province (border between Thai-Lao). The chief of Mukdahan Wildlife Checkpoint also participated in a Mukdahan Annual Red Cross event with Mukdahan Province’s civil juries in a reflective discussion as a conservationist. The topics in this discussion ranged from officials talking about their viewpoint as a member of the enforcers to opinion pieces from Mukdahan citizens on the special economic zone. The discussion then turned to remind the citizens of Mukdahan in the face of substantial progress is for its people to remember the three virtues; Morals, Nature, and Culture.

On December 26, 2016, Khlong Yai Wildlife Checkpoint (Trad Province) and Laem Chabang Wildlife Checkpoint (Chonburi Province) participated in the National Wildlife Protection Day of BE 2560 (2017). The event was held at Kaeng Hang Maeo District office in Chanthaburi Province and ceremoniously presided by Chanthaburi’s provincial governor.  Also in participation were Wildlife Conservation Unit officers of Protected Area Regional Office 2 (Si Racha), head of local villages, local citizens, students, teachers, and administration officials of Chanthaburi Province.

On December 29, 2016, Domestic Ivory Control Subdivision of the Division of Wild Fauna and Flora Protection, Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, undertook inspections of ivory stores in accordance with Thailand’s Ivory Protection Act. No suspicious activities or items were found at Gems Gallery International Manufacturer CO., LTD. on Rama 6 Road, Phayathai District and at Peter Nang store on Si Phraya Road, Bang Rak District, both of which are located in Bangkok.
